Who is Álex Márquez?

Álex Márquez (born 23 April 1996) is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racer who rides for Gresini Racing in MotoGP. He won the 2014 Moto3 and 2019 Moto2 world championships, and is the only active rider to have won titles in both classes. He finished runner-up in the 2025 MotoGP championship behind his brother Marc, the first siblings to finish first and second.

Álex Márquez: Full Biography

Álex Márquez is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racer who rides for Gresini Racing in MotoGP. He won the Moto3 title in 2014 and the Moto2 title in 2019, and is the only active Grand Prix rider to have won a world championship in both classes.

The Junior Titles He reached Moto3 in 2012 and took the championship in 2014 with three wins and ten podiums. Five seasons in Moto2 followed with Marc VDS, ending in the 2019 title — five wins, six poles and ten podiums.

Honda Jorge Lorenzo’s retirement opened a factory Repsol Honda seat for 2020, alongside his older brother Marc. He took two podiums as a rookie and was moved to the satellite LCR team for the following two seasons, in which he scored none.

Gresini He switched to Ducati machinery with Gresini in 2023 and the results returned. In 2025 he won at Jerez, Catalonia and Malaysia and finished runner-up in the championship on 467 points — behind Marc, making them the first siblings to finish first and second in the class. He joins Red Bull KTM in 2027.

Chapter 01

Two Titles, Two Classes

He took the Moto3 championship in 2014 with Estrella Galicia, winning three races and finishing on the podium ten times. The step to Moto2 was harder — two seasons without a win before three came in 2017 — but in 2019 he put together five wins, six poles and ten podiums to take a second world title. He remains the only rider on the current Grand Prix grid to have won championships in both classes.

Chapter 02

The Shadow

Jorge Lorenzo retired unexpectedly at the end of 2019 and the factory Repsol Honda seat went to Márquez, putting him directly alongside his older brother. He scored two podiums in a shortened rookie season and was moved down to the satellite LCR team for 2021. Two years there brought no podiums at all and 120 points between them.

Chapter 03

First and Second

Gresini and a Ducati changed it. Ninth in 2023, eighth in 2024, and then a season nobody had forecast: a maiden MotoGP win at Jerez in April 2025, two more at Catalonia and in Malaysia, twelve podiums and 467 points. Marc won the title and Álex finished second — the first time two siblings had taken the top two places in the championship. Red Bull KTM signed him for 2027.
