Pierre Gasly (born 7 February 1996) is a French Formula 1 driver who races for Alpine. He has one Grand Prix win and six podium finishes from 188 starts. His victory came at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, making him the first French driver to win a Grand Prix since Olivier Panis in 1996. He has also driven for Toro Rosso, Red Bull and AlphaTauri.

Pierre Gasly: Full Biography

Pierre Gasly is a French racing driver who has taken one Grand Prix victory and six podium finishes from 188 starts. He races for Alpine.

The Junior Years Born in Rouen, he won the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2013 and the GP2 Series in 2016, and spent 2017 racing in Japanese Super Formula while waiting for a Formula 1 seat. He was called up by Toro Rosso for the last races of that season, replacing Daniil Kvyat.

Red Bull, Briefly A full season at Toro Rosso in 2018 earned him promotion to Red Bull for 2019, where he was dropped after twelve races and sent back to the junior team. He answered it almost immediately, finishing second at the Brazilian Grand Prix that November.

Monza and Alpine At the 2020 Italian Grand Prix he inherited the lead through a safety car and pit-lane closure and held off Carlos Sainz to the flag — his only win, and the first by a French driver since Olivier Panis at Monaco in 1996, twenty-four years earlier. He moved to Alpine in 2023 and took his sixth podium at Monaco in 2026.

Chapter 01

Twelve Races at Red Bull

Toro Rosso called him up for the last races of 2017 in place of Daniil Kvyat, and a full season in 2018 earned him the seat alongside Max Verstappen. It lasted twelve races. Red Bull returned him to the junior team mid-season and put Alex Albon in the car. Three months later, at Interlagos, Gasly finished second — his first podium, taken in the car he had been demoted back into.

Chapter 02

Monza

An early stop put him ahead of drivers held by a closed pit lane under the safety car, and when Lewis Hamilton served a penalty and Lance Stroll lost places at the restart, Gasly found himself leading a Grand Prix for the first time. He held off Carlos Sainz over the closing laps to win at Monza. He was the 109th different winner in Formula 1 and the first Frenchman to win a Grand Prix since Olivier Panis at Monaco in 1996.

Chapter 03

Alpine

He joined Alpine in 2023, the team he had grown up watching as Renault, and settled into it as the senior driver. Podiums have been rare — one in 2023, one in 2024 — and the 2025 season was the leanest of his career, twenty-two points and eighteenth overall. The car improved with Mercedes power for 2026, and at Monaco he took third, his sixth podium and his first in two years.
