Raúl Fernández: Full Biography

Raúl Fernández González is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racer, born on 23 October 2000 in Madrid. He rides the number 25 Aprilia for the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team. His younger brother Adrián is also a Grand Prix racer.

He came up through the Spanish junior ladder, starting at eleven and progressing through PreMoto3, the FIM CEV Repsol series and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. In 2018 he won the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship with three wins and six podiums.

His 2021 Moto2 season was the most successful rookie campaign the class has seen. Eight victories bettered Marc Márquez’s previous record for wins by a rookie, and he fought his Ajo teammate Remy Gardner for the title before a crash at Misano with three rounds left settled it. He finished runner-up.

MotoGP took longer. A difficult 2022 on the Tech3 KTM was followed by a switch to Aprilia with RNF in 2023 and Trackhouse from 2024. His maiden premier-class win came at Phillip Island in October 2025 — also Trackhouse’s first — and a second followed at Silverstone in 2026.

Three Chapters That Defined Raúl Fernández

Chapter 01

The Junior Champion

Fernández started racing at eleven and worked up through the Cuna de Campeones, PreMoto3 and the FIM CEV Repsol series, riding the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup alongside. He was third in the Rookies Cup in 2016 and made his Grand Prix debut the same year, finishing eleventh. In 2018 he took three wins and six podiums to win the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship. Two full Moto3 seasons followed, and 2020 was the breakthrough: six pole positions, a first podium at Aragón, and wins at the European and Portuguese Grands Prix on the way to fourth in the championship.

Chapter 02

Eight Wins as a Rookie

One season in Moto2 was enough to make his name. Fernández won eight races in his rookie year, more than any rookie in the class's history and one better than Marc Márquez's previous record. The championship became a duel with his own Red Bull KTM Ajo teammate Remy Gardner, and it ran to the closing rounds before a crash at Misano with three races left effectively ended it. He finished runner-up on 307 points, with seven poles and seven fastest laps, and arrived in MotoGP as the most hyped prospect on the grid.

Chapter 03

The Long Wait, and Two Wins

The KTM RC16 did not suit him. His first premier-class season brought points on six occasions and twenty-second overall. A move to Aprilia with RNF in 2023 was better in the second half of the year, and Trackhouse took him on for 2024, where sixth at the Catalan Grand Prix was his best. Then Phillip Island, October 2025: Fernández led home Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi for his first MotoGP victory, and the first for Trackhouse, in only the team's second season. He won again at Silverstone in 2026 and is contracted to the team through 2028.
