Sébastien Ogier: Full Biography

Sébastien Ogier is a French rally driver who has won nine World Rally Championship titles, equalling the record held by his compatriot Sébastien Loeb. He drives for Toyota Gazoo Racing.

Citroën He came through the Peugeot Rally Cup and won the Junior World Rally Championship in 2008. Citroën gave him a works programme, and in 2010 he took his first world rally win in Portugal, ahead of the reigning champion Loeb — the team mate who was also the obstacle to his own progress.

Six in a Row He moved to Volkswagen for 2012 and won the drivers’ championship in each of the next four seasons as the Polo R WRC dominated. When Volkswagen withdrew at the end of 2016 he went to the privateer M-Sport Ford team and won twice more, taking his run to six consecutive titles with two different manufacturers.

The Ninth A season at Citroën in 2019 was followed by a move to Toyota, and titles in 2020 and 2021. He then cut back his programme, entering only part of each season while continuing to win rallies, and in 2025 took a ninth championship from eleven starts. He has 69 world rally wins and 119 podium finishes from 211 starts.

Chapter 01

Leaving the Champion Behind

He arrived at Citroën as the junior in a team built around Sébastien Loeb, who had won every title since 2004. At Rally de Portugal in 2010 he took his first world championship victory, having spent two days sweeping the loose gravel off the road for the cars behind him, and finished ahead of the reigning champion. The relationship with the team did not survive the season that followed.

Chapter 02

Six in a Row

Volkswagen built the Polo R WRC around him and he won the championship four times in a row, taking nine rallies in 2013 alone. When the manufacturer pulled out at the end of 2016 he moved to M-Sport, a privateer team running Fords out of Cumbria, and won the title there twice more. Six consecutive championships, with two very different operations.

Chapter 03

The Ninth

He joined Toyota for 2020 and won that title and the next. From 2022 he cut his programme back, entering six, eight and then ten rallies a season rather than the full calendar, and kept winning them. In 2025 he entered eleven, won six of them, and took a ninth world championship — equalling the record of Sébastien Loeb, the driver he had once been signed to support.
