Aston Martin has entered Formula 1 twice under its own name, sixty years apart. The current team is the Silverstone operation that began as Jordan in 1991 and has raced under six names since. This is its record.

What Is the Aston Martin F1 Team?

Aston Martin Aramco is a British Formula 1 team based at Silverstone in Northamptonshire. It has raced under the Aston Martin name since 2021, when the Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll renamed the Racing Point team he had bought a controlling stake in.

The operation itself is much older than the name. It was founded as Jordan Grand Prix in 1991 and has since raced as Midland, Spyker, Force India and Racing Point — a lineage of midfield teams that punched above their budgets. Aston Martin’s own earlier Formula 1 attempt, a works entry in 1959 and 1960, scored no championship points and was abandoned after two seasons.

Under the Aston Martin name the team has taken nine podium finishes but has yet to win a Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel drove for it in 2021 and 2022, Fernando Alonso since 2023. For 2026 it became Honda’s works partner and Adrian Newey — the designer behind championship cars at Williams, McLaren and Red Bull — took over as team principal.

Era 01 · 1959—1960

The First Attempt

Aston Martin entered Formula 1 as a works team in 1959, a year after winning at Le Mans, running the DBR4 for Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby. The car was already outdated — front-engined, at the point the sport was moving behind the driver.

The team scored no championship points across two seasons and withdrew. It would be sixty-one years before the name returned to a Formula 1 grid.

Era 02 · 1991—2020

Jordan, Force India, Racing Point

The team that races as Aston Martin today began as Jordan Grand Prix in 1991 and became one of the sport's great overachievers, winning races on a fraction of the budget of the works teams.

It passed through Midland, Spyker and Force India before Lawrence Stroll's consortium bought it out of administration in 2018 and renamed it Racing Point. Every podium and win in that period belongs to those teams, not to Aston Martin.

Era 03 · 2021—Present

The Green Era

The Aston Martin name returned in 2021 with Sebastian Vettel alongside Lance Stroll, and Vettel gave the team its first podium that year in Azerbaijan.

Fernando Alonso's arrival in 2023 produced the team's strongest season, a run of podiums in the opening months and fifth in the constructors' championship. A new factory at Silverstone followed, then a works engine deal with Honda for 2026 and the arrival of Adrian Newey as team principal — the clearest statement yet of intent.
