Ducati entered MotoGP in 2003 and won with Casey Stoner in its fifth season. The long wait that followed ended with Francesco Bagnaia, and has not really stopped since.

What Is the Ducati Lenovo Team?

Ducati Lenovo Team is Ducati’s factory entry in MotoGP, run from Borgo Panigale in Bologna. Ducati joined the championship in 2003 with the Desmosedici and won the riders’ title in 2007 with Casey Stoner, at a time when Honda and Yamaha had shared almost everything between them.

Fifteen seasons passed before the next one. Francesco Bagnaia won in 2022 and 2023, and Marc Márquez in 2025. In between, in 2024, the title went to Jorge Martín — on a Ducati, but entered by Prima Pramac rather than the factory team.

Ducati has seven premier-class constructors’ championships against those five riders’ titles. The two are separate awards: the constructors’ title belongs to the marque and can be won in a season when another manufacturer’s rider takes the riders’ crown.

Era 01 · 2003—2007

Debut, and a Title

Ducati arrived in MotoGP in 2003 with the Desmosedici and Loris Capirossi, and was competitive quickly enough to unsettle the established order. Casey Stoner took the riders' title in 2007.

It was the first premier-class crown for an Italian marque in decades, and for a while it looked like the start of something continuous.

Era 02 · 2008—2021

The Long Wait

It was not. Fourteen seasons passed without another riders' title. The bike was fast in a straight line and difficult everywhere else, and a succession of riders — including a world champion in Valentino Rossi — could not make it win a championship.

The engineering that eventually fixed it arrived slowly, and mostly out of sight.

Four in a Row

Francesco Bagnaia won in 2022 and again in 2023. In 2024 the title stayed with a Ducati but went to Jorge Martin at Prima Pramac. Marc Márquez won it for the factory team in 2025.

The 2024 championship was won on a Ducati but entered by Prima Pramac, a satellite team, which is why that row is not flagged as a works entry. Ducati also holds seven premier-class constructors' championships — more than its five riders' titles, because the constructors' award goes to the marque and can be won in a season when another manufacturer's rider takes the riders' crown.
