What Is Toyota Gazoo Racing?

Toyota Gazoo Racing is Toyota’s factory endurance team, operating from Cologne in Germany. Its reputation was built on a long run of near misses at the 24 Hours of Le Mans before the first overall win finally came in 2018.

What followed was dominance. Toyota won five years running, from 2018 to 2022 — the first three with the TS050 Hybrid, the last two with the GR010 Hybrid built to the new Hypercar rules. Fernando Alonso, Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima took the first two.

Ferrari interrupted the run with three consecutive wins from 2023. Toyota returned to the top step in 2026, entered under the name Toyota Racing, with Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries.

Era 01 · 2012—2017

Losing It Late

Toyota came back to the top class of endurance racing in 2012 and spent six years failing to win the race it most wanted. The TS040 took the World Endurance Championship in 2014 without winning Le Mans.

The closest and cruellest was 2016, when the leading car stopped on the final lap.

Era 02 · 2018—2022

Five in a Row

The first overall win came in 2018, with Fernando Alonso, Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima in the TS050 Hybrid. Toyota then won every year to 2022 — three with the TS050 and two with the GR010 Hybrid after the Hypercar rules arrived.

Five consecutive victories is a run only a handful of teams in the history of the race have managed.

Era 03 · 2023—

Ferrari, and the Way Back

Ferrari's return to the top class ended the streak, taking three wins in a row from 2023 while Toyota came up short.

In 2026 Toyota won again, entered as Toyota Racing, with Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries.
